Competition Clothing

Jodhpurs and Breeches are quality, tight-fitted trousers that reach down to the ankle. They are designed to be comfortable and to allow you to bend at the knee without them cutting into the back of your leg. They are also designed to not be a hindrance to you whilst you are working or riding, and made of a tougher material to make them more durable than other trousers.

Jodhpurs and Breeches are usually worn with boots. These can be short paddock boots or knee high riding boots that fit over the leg. Chaps can also be worn, whether they are full chaps or half chaps, and can also be worn under waterproof trousers for when you get caught in the rain.

Jodhpurs offer many benefits for the rider. They are designed to not only provide you with protection whilst riding, but also to look good. Some styles come with a denim look to enable them to resemble jeans and allowing you wear them where ever you wish as opposed to just the yard.

Breeches offer other benefits when riding. Again, these benefits differ with their design. Some offer a patch of hard-wearing material on the inside of the knee for extra grip. Some also have a hard-wearing 'sticky panel' on the seat. There were two main types of designs, 'Knee Patch Breeches' and 'Full Seat Breeches'. Knee patch breeches have a patch of grippy material on the inside of the knee. This style is usually worn by eventers, show jumpers and hunt riders.

Full seat breeches not only have a patch of this grippy material around the inside knee area, but also up the inner thigh and across the buttocks. These are often preferred by dressage competitors as the 'sticky seat' stops the rider from slipping out of the saddle during the horse's movements.

People often get confused with the difference between jodhpurs and breeches, but the difference between modern day designs are very little. They are both made of stretchy material that is durable, and can be worn and used for the same riding activities as they both provide comfort along with style and practicality.
