Your Garden Gazebo Buying Guide

When you go to purchase a garden gazebo, you need to know what to expect for your money. We hope this buying guide helps you to find the perfect garden gazebo for you.

About Garden Gazebos

  • The general concept of a garden gazebo is simple.  It consists of a basic structure that is ideal for PROVIDING YOU SHADE AND PROTECTION FROM THE ELEMENTS, such as the sun, wind and bugs.  Gazebos are usually erected using poles that slot together, forming its square or rectangular frame, and then a canopy is placed over the top.

The main disadvantage to entertaining outside is the weather.  No one is happy with it.  It's either too hot, too wet or too windy.  No one wants to stand outside in the rain and get wet.  If the sun is blaring down, most people prefer shade as opposed to getting sun burnt or suffering from heat stroke, and if it's windy and you have food outside, it will bring in more bugs and the chance airborne contamination.  Using a garden gazebo can PROTECT YOU from all this.
They are also great to take CAMPING, to use as an EXTENSION on your CAMPING TENT, to take on PICNICS, FESTIVALS, or even to use at EXHIBITIONS.

Purpose and Location

  • When you purchase a garden gazebo, you need to consider what you will be mainly using it for. Is it to be used solely in your garden? Is it to be a permanent feature? If it is, then you may want to ensure that the frame of the gazebo you're looking at is STURDY and STRONG enough to withhold the unpredictable British weather that can be thrown at it.

If you intend to take your gazebo to numerous locations, then you need to ensure that your gazebo can be EASILY TRANSPORTED. You will also need to take into consideration whether or not your garden gazebo will be sitting on CONCRETE or GRASS. For each option, accessories will be needed (see accessories section).

Size and Shape

  • Garden gazebos can be found in numerous shapes and sizes, from SQUARE, RECTANGULAR to HEXAGONAL, and from a small, basic canopy, to the huge, fancy marquees that are great for weddings. As long as you have the space and you know where it will stand, the choice in size and shape is yours.

Colour

  • Garden gazebos can also be found in numerous colours, from GREEN, BLUE and WHITE, or even STRIPED. It all depends on your preference, and what you intend to use it for. Obviously if you have a colour scheme, you may want to look for something that would fit in. Also take into consideration the heat from the sun. Lighter colours will repel the heat and help keep cool, whereas darker colours will absorb it.

Side Panels

  • If you like your privacy, some gazebos offer you side panels. These can be either a PERMANENT FIXTURE or DETACHABLE. Having detachable side panels allows you the option of having only one up, or two, or even all three. These are great if you want some privacy, or even if you're serving food. Contamination can be wind borne and by using side panels can protect it.

Fabric

  • The fabric of your garden gazebo is also something that needs a lot of consideration. Most gazebos come with a POLYETHYLENE canopy, which is plastic, however some canopies consist of a WATER RESISTANT MATERIAL. Is your gazebo intending to remain up for long periods of time? If this is the case, ensure the material used is water resistant. The British summer can be very unpredictable, and you can have rain as well as wind when it should be sunny. Also it may be an idea to check the STITCHING is STRONG and DURABLE. Taped seams are also a bonus.

Accessories

  • When you purchase a gazebo, there are certain accessories that you need to go with it. The first are TENT PEGS and GUY ROPES. When a gazebo is up it can act like an umbrella, and even the smallest gust of wind is enough to lift it and over turn it. By attaching guy ropes and staking them to the ground with pegs ensures that your garden gazebo is secured down and won't tip. It also adds to the structure's stability.

Some designs don't need guy ropes. Some have feet with holes that you can stake the pegs directly through.

But what if you haven'y got a lawn, and your gazebo is intended to go straight on concrete? You can't stake a peg through concrete. Another accessory you can buy are GAZEBO WEIGHTS. These can weigh up to 15kg each and can be positioned around each of the legs and over the feet. This weighs the gazebo down, making it more difficult for the wind to move.

Cost

  • It's well known that to buy cheap means to buy twice. If you want a quality garden gazebo, then the more expensive it is the better it will be. With some brands, this is true. There are some good, high quality garden gazebos on the market if you are willing to spend the money. However, not all cheaper gazebos lack quality.

  • With the REDSTONE OUTDOOR brand, you definitely get VALUE FOR MONEY. The structure is stable with reinforced connections, and the material used for the canopy is water resistant and of a high quality. It's a classic example of a cheaper priced gazebo that will still impress and won't let you down.
  • When you find the right garden gazebo for you, you will use it year after year. Whether you take it camping to extend your tent, use it on a picnic or just in your garden, you'll find that your garden gazebo will be one of the best purchases you ever made.
