Cooler Rugs
Cooler rugs are important horse rugs to own. Cooler rugs can also be known as fleece rugs, summer sheets or sweat rugs. Despite the fact that these are individual rugs in themselves, each can contribute to the gradual cooling down of your horse's muscles after strenuous exercise.
Using cooler rugs to help gradually cool your horse's muscles down is essential for your horse. When exercising, it's easy for a horse to become hot and to sweat. Cooler rugs help their coat to dry, preventing them from catching a chill, and stops the muscles from becoming stiff and sore. They also have Wick Fast properties. This means that the material will wick the moisture from the skin, pass it through and then allow it to evaporate. This removes the moisture and enables your horse to dry quicker without cooling down too quick.
Summer sheets can also be used to keep your horse's muscles warm whilst they cool down. Even though the material may not be as wick fast as standard cooler rugs, it can still prevent your horse from catching chill and suffering from stiff muscles.
Cooler rugs can also be used in replacement of stable rugs on hot nights. On occasions a stable rug can be too heavy for your horse and they will become too hot. Using cooler rugs instead helps to keep the chill off them when the temperature drops.
Cooler rugs are also ideal for adding layers to your horse's turnout or stable rug. During the winter months the days can become bitterly cold. Sometimes your horse's rug may not be adequate enough to keep your horse warm. By placing cooler rugs under your turnout or stable rug can help to trap air and generate extra warmth.
